#LAMARCAESCAPES Tarifa by Lucía Liencres

TARIFA: Located in the southernmost end of the Iberian Peninsula and the Strait of Gibraltar, Tarida sits right across from Morocco. It’s a world famous destination for wind and kitesurfing, seafood and charming locals. Read below to discover the best things to do on your trip to Tarifa and Lucía Liencres' favorite spots.

WHAT TO DO: The options are endless: You can sitesee, do any kind of sports, chill at a chiringuito and even go whale watching!

The best beaches are Los Lances and Valdevaqueros, where you can learn how to kitesurf, dive and windsurf. When in the mood for a bite or a drink at the beach, visit these chiringuitos: Carbones13, Demente, Waikiki, and Tumbao.

If you are more of a sightseeing type of person, you can stroll around the old town and visit the Castle of Guzmán El Bueno. There are also whale and dolphin watching tours you can join for an unforgettable experience!

Other plans for active souls include running along the seafront, skating, biking through La Peña, and yoga.

WHERE TO EAT: The food in Tarifa is delicious and the service is unbeatable.

El Picoteo

Los Mellis

Surla: Great option for breakfast. Order the “Chia r lie brown.”

El Lola: Go for lunch and get the gambas, wasabi and avocado.

Anca Curro: Dinner spot. Order the eggplant scramble.

If you are staying at a rented house or apartment, visit Bioladen to purchase organic and seasonal produce.

WHERE TO STAY: There are options to stay at adorable beachside hotels or also to rent a house or apartment. I recommend the following hotels:

Hotel Dos Mares

Hurricane Hotel

WHERE TO SHOP: There are many shops around town. My favorites are:

Be zen

WHY I LOVE IT: I met my husband at a party in Tarifa. I have always loved people from Cádiz because of how nice they are. In Tarifa, you eat delicious food, people -myself included- love to do sports and be out in nature. You have both the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.

Tarifa is the southernmost city in Europe, across from Morocco, and this mix of cultures is super enriching. In just a few kilometers, two completely different cultures live together. The locals of Tarifa live and share with many people from around the world who have decided to make it their home, or with those who are simply after the good weather and water sports, especially kite and windsurf. The service industry and the food have no comparison and it is cheap. The weather is incredible year-round. That’s why it’s my favorite place in the world.

Some special quotes related to Tarifa:

"Wherever the wind might take us.” ("Donde nos lleve el viento.")

"Be how you want to be.” ("Sé como tú quieras.")
